A recently published 33-year, long-term study led by Henrik Toft Sorensen, a professor at Aarhus University Hospital in Denmark, looked at the health of 6,502 Danish men from age 22 until age 55.

By the end of the 33-year follow-up period, nearly half of the men who were obese at age 22 had been diagnosed with diabetes or high blood pressure, suffered a heart attack, stroke or blood clots in the legs or lungs, or had died.
Compared to those of normal weight, obese young men were eight times more likely to develop diabetes, four times more likely to have a potentially fatal blood clot, and more than twice as likely to develop high blood pressure, have had a heart attack or to have died.
For every unit increase in body mass index (BMI) above the normal range, there was a 5 present increased risk of heart attack, a 10 present increased risk of high blood pressure and blood clots, and a 20 present increased risk of diabetes.
The study conclusion was an association between obesity in young men and a greater risk of serious health problems or death by age 55. However, the study did not prove causation but only correlation.
So beware parents healthy habits start at home. The best way to fight or prevent childhood obesity and weight problems is to get the whole family on a healthier track. Making better food choices and becoming more active will benefit everyone, regardless of weight. Greens beans and soya granules stir fry poriyal
This is a different take on the regular green beans stir fry or poriyal. It goes well with rice and chapathis.
Ingredients:
1. Green beans, cleaned and chopped into small pieces, 1 cup.
2. Soya granules, 1 cup.
3. Onion, medium size, 1, sliced thinly.
4. Ginger-garlic paste, 1 teaspoon.
5. Chili powder, 1/2 teaspoon.
6. Coriander powder, 1 teaspoon.
7. Turmeric powder, a pinch.
8. Mustard seeds, 1/2 teaspoon.
9. Urad dhal, 1/2 teaspoon.
10. Salt as per taste.
11. Curry leaves, 4-5.
12. Chopped cilantro for garnishing.
Preparation:
Soak the soya granules in hot water for 5 minutes. Drain them out from the water, wash them, and squeeze out the excess water from the granules are keep aside. If soya granules are not available, soya nuggets or meal maker can be used and they can be ground coarsely. Heat a pan with a tablespoon of oil. When the oil turns hot, add the mustard seeds and let it splutter. Then add the urad dhal and fry for a few seconds. Add the sliced onions and curry leaf now and saute for a couple of minutes until the onions turn translucent. Then add the chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, salt, and ginger-garlic paste and fry for a minute until the ginger-garlic paste and the powders lose their raw smell. Now add the chopped green beans and soya granules, mix everything well, and cook closed for 10 minutes under low flame until the beans are cooked. If needs water can be sprinkled in between to prevent the beans from burning. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve with rice or chapathis.

Ogunjimi goes on to explain how the researchers discovered that people might be taking in too much iron and too much sodium nitrate, and both of these substances can lead to an increased risk of diabetes.

Why not to consume meat?

Very High protein in harmful: A high-protein meat diet may be the reason of high uric acid causing gall stone and gout. Also may worsen kidney function because your body may have trouble eliminating all the waste products of protein metabolism. Many people have the idea that animal protein is superior to plant protein because the former is considered a complete protein, and the latter is incomplete. The truth is that some plant proteins are complete, and that food combining can create complete proteins out of several incomplete protein foods. Wheat has 17% of its calories as protein, broccoli has 45% and rice has 8%. It is very easy to have a protein rich diet without eating meat.

Effect of eating animal flesh of environment
Raising animals for meat has its consequences. It leads to rain forest destruction, global heat rising, water pollution, water scarcity, desertification, misuse of energy resources, and world hunger. The use of land, water, energy, and human effort to produce meat is not an efficient way to use the earths resources.
Large extensions of forests have been cut and changed into grasslands that provide cattle with food. To conserve grasslands, fertilizers and other chemical substances are used; consequently, soil and water resources are polluted. Even though there are methods that avoid this kind of deterioration, producers prefer to ignore them so they can keep satisfying the increasing meat demand without affecting their production rates.
High environmental pollution: Chemical and animal waste runoff from factory farms are responsible for more than 173,000 miles of polluted rivers and streams. Runoff from farmlands is one of the greatest threats to water quality today. Raising cattle contributes significantly to the production of three gases which cause global warming, is a leading cause of water pollution. It requires a staggering 2464 gallons of water for the production of each pound of beef. It only takes 29 gallons of water to produce a pound of tomatoes, and 139 gallons to produce a one pound loaf of whole wheat bread. There are three root causes of environmental degradation :
1 The large volumes of animal waste produced;
2 Lack of appropriate management and disposal of these materials; and
3 Unsustainable water usage and soil degradation associated with feed production.
World Hunger: raising cattle requires massive amounts of water that could be used elsewhere. The amount of grain grown to feed cattle could be used to feed starving nations. Nearly one billion people suffer from hunger and malnutrition on this planet. Over 40 million die each year of starvation, and most of them are children. Despite this, more than one third of the worlds grain harvest is diverted from feeding people to feeding livestock. Imagine how many people those grains could feed. If we fed people instead of livestock, no one would go hungry. Whereas only a third of nutrients fed to animals are absorbed, rest just go waste.
spare animals: Many vegetarians give up meat because of their concern for animals. Ten billion animals are slaughtered for human consumption each year. And, unlike the farms of yesteryear where animals roamed freely, today most animals are factory farmed crammed into cages where they can barely move and fed a diet tainted with pesticides and antibiotics. These animals spend their entire lives in crates or stalls so small that they can’t even turn around. Farmed animals are not protected from cruelty under the law in fact, the majority of state anti cruelty laws specifically exempt farm animals from basic humane protection. And not to speak of cruelty against these animals.

Therefore, it is both auspicious and peaceful for people to choose vegetarianism." This has been the common advice of many important figures and sages throughout history!
